Message from the Vice Chancellor

Season’s greetings to all the dear international students!

It is with a great sense of pleasure that, I extend a warm welcome to the international student fraternity to the University of Mysore, an institution with a long standing tradition of ‘academic excellence, innovative courses, and commitment to respecting diversity’. The University, which has just stepped into its 103rd year, was the first university to be started in the state of Karnataka, and the sixth in India.

Known for its stellar academic achievements, quality infrastructure and rich research accomplishments, the University of Mysore has produced a number of talented and versatile scholars who have made outstanding contributions to their respective fields of knowledge. The University’s alumni are spread the world over and many of them have won recognition as global leaders in law, science and technology, health, industry, arts, literature, sports and social activism.

The University of Mysore has received a string of laurels for its achievements. These include Five Star status, A+ and A grades from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, University with Potential for Excellence from the University Grants Commission, Institution of Excellence from the Ministry of Human Resource Development and recognition as PURSE (Promotion of University Research and Scientific Excellence) from the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The University’s quest for scaling new heights of academic glory continues with the same vigour and vitality and many new projects are on the anvil.

Located in the city of Mysore, known not only for its salubrious climate throught the year, but also for its deference for multiculturalism, the University of Mysore has been drawing international students to its precincts for more than three decades. Over the years, the number of international students has seen a steady rise.

The University of Mysore is one of the most sought after destinations of higher education in India by international students. The University’s international students are drawn from about 60 countries across the world, and with each passing year its country profile is becoming more diverse. The University of Mysore has fostered collaborations with Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Diplomatic Missions, Universities and Research Institutions from different countries for facilitating student and scholar placements.

The city of  Mysuru, which has a prominent place in the cultural canvas of India is known for its multi-cultural ambience and is an ideal site for international students not only for pursuing their academic goals, but also their interests in the fields of arts, sports and the entrepreneurial sector.

Let me not forget to record that, the current and previous academic years have been particularly hard on academics as the COVID-19 pandemic raged a war against all stakeholders of the University. Despite many difficulties, I am very much impressed by the international student’s commitment to stay with India, their endurance, academic performance and their co-operation to pass out this phase of difficult times. Though, the number of international students admissions dwindled during 2020-21, I do hope in the coming years, our performance would be better and better.

I am very happy to announce that, the University of Mysore is introducing international scholarship program in the all the five faculties of the University which would benefit number of eligible foreign students to pursue their higher education. The University of Mysore has been providing best possible amenities for better learning in this 100 years old University campus. I am inviting all international community of students to join academically rewarding graduate, post-graduate and Ph.D. programmes in the University.

I wish you will have an academically rewarding and a culturally vibrant experience during your stay in the University of Mysore campus in particular and Mysore city in general.

I wish you all the best in your future endeavour.
